History & About Us

Our family-run company was established in Friedrichshafen in 1996. Friedrichshafen is only a few minutes away from our current headquarters in Langenargen. The location on Lake Constance was strategically convenient as it gave us access to a broad network of suppliers in the region. Lake Constance is not only our home but also a source of recreation on a regular basis for us. We are only 5 minutes away from the lake by car, so we can go for a quick swim during our lunch break. Our slogan is ‘Work where others go on holiday’.

Our founder, Knut Berge, originally comes from the valve business and had to buy accessories for the automation of valves himself. He was not satisfied with the solutions, service, delivery times and prices in the market and hence identified a market for himself here. This is how the first hand sketch of his own limit switch box was created. However, the initial idea of flooding the market with a low-cost box was soon abandoned. He quickly realised that customers have very specific requirements and that, above all, everyone has their own favourite switch. This is how a planned mass product evolved into a sophisticated modular system, which enables us today to cater to different customer requirements very easily. We have turned ‘’customised‘’ into ‘’standard‘’. So far we have already assembled almost 800 different switches and sensors in our limit switch boxes.

In addition to the limit switch boxes, we also offer all other components for pneumatic quarter-turn actuators and linear actuators. The motto ‘ One-stop shop’ makes it easy for our customers to procure all the items they need for automation from just one supplier. It is very important that we only supply accessories and do not compete with our customers by selling actuators or valves, unlike many of our competitors, who have all either been bought up by groups or are otherwise linked to an actuator manufacturer.

With his experience in the actuator/automation market since 1993, Knut Berge founded the Berge Automation with his brother in 1995. As a young entrepreneur, he was quick to realize that there were not too many suppliers that could offer actuator accessories in the market. They developed their EB Limit Switch Box series and shortly after, they have added the MNL solenoid valve series.
During the time when EUROTEC was founded  in 1996, it was clear for the Berge Brothers, that low price and mass production is not an ideal target in the long run. Instead, they focused on quality products that can respond to customer needs in a much better way. This required innovation and continuous improvement of products, and eventually expanding of the product range as well. In addition to expanding limit switch family EB, Knut Berge developed the NAMUR reversing seal to combine 3/2 and 5/2 direction on a single solenoid valve. Starting with 2000, EUROTEC was certified to offer ATEX products as well.

By 2001, Knut Berge became the sole proprietor of EUROTEC, being supported by a growing number of employees. A steady growth in turnover was a natural result of the aspiration for quality service, growing product range and meticulous work of all members oft he organisation.

In the year 2008, Wave Box family was introduced to replace the series EB. In 2014, EUROBOX and Big-Box were introduced for applications that require bigger and longer sensors. In 2016 our stainless steel Neptun Box, which was especially developed for off-shore applications, and d-box, specifically designed pressure-resistant housing for Atex Ex d applications were introduced.

In 2021, we are celebrating our 25th year. And the innovations do not cease - development of new series, products and product updates are happening as you are reading these lines. Let us offer you a customized solution for your project, with our quality products from the Lake of Constance, made in Germany.

Contact

Our main products currently include limit switch boxes, solenoid valves, mounting parts and mounting kits. Our customers can procure all products related to pneumatic actuators -and nowadays also linear actuators- from a single source. For limit switch boxes alone, we offer 7 different series fulfilling a wide range of requirements. Solenoid valves are available in NAMUR and in-line versions and we offer mounting kits for manually operated valves, linear actuators and between actuators and valves. These products are essential for the automation of industrial processes and are used in various industries, including the chemical, oil and gas, water and wastewater industries. Our limit switch boxes are particularly renowned for their reliability and durability, as are our solenoid valves, which also impress with their precision and efficiency. The mounting parts and mounting kits offer flexible solutions for integrating our products into existing systems.

We want to sleep soundly and therefore attach great importance to a high standard of quality, which is reflected in the extremely low number of complaints. For example, our limit switch boxes are subjected to a 100% function test before they leave our premises. Although we operate in a niche market, we are one of the leading suppliers on the global market. By continuously innovating and adapting to the needs of our customers, we have built up a strong market presence.

However, it is not only quality that is important, but above all good customer service. In our eyes, this includes

- prompt preparation of quotations

- short delivery times

- transparent and comprehensive product documentation

- open and honest consulting

- expertise

- a cooperative partnership with the customer

- and, most importantly, swift assistance if a problem arises

Key milestones

Partner companies abroad:

Since the beginning of the company's history, we have always had partner companies abroad, such as in Holland, Malaysia, Australia, Italy and China.

We have always brought new products onto the market, where not only the function was important to us, but also an appealing and modern design. Some of our innovative products have revolutionised the market and are now indispensable.

Reversible seal for MNF

For example, we launched the innovative reversible seal for our solenoid valves, which switches the function of a solenoid valve from 5/2 to 3/2-way by simply removing, turning and reinserting it. This makes stock-keeping easier since our customers need only one solenoid valve for double-acting and single-acting actuators. The principle has already been copied several times.

Adjustable bracket MBH

We were also pioneers in the market for mounting brackets between the actuators and limit switch box, launching a height and width-adjustable version. Previously, there was a separate, one-piece bracket for each standard bore pattern. With our MBH bracket, we combine a total of 8 different bore patterns and shaft heights in one product by simply adjusting the sides. This has also significantly simplified stock-keeping for us and our customers. It is now an absolute market standard and many competitors have now followed suit with similar solutions.

Assembly kit for manually operated valves

Position feedback from valves with manual levers is also frequently required. Especially in safety-relevant applications. We have launched a standardised ‘MSH’ mounting kit to put an end to tedious tinkering in customer workshops. We have also introduced a height-adjustable version to the market, which can be quickly and easily mounted directly on a large number of valves using a variety of driver screws. With this set, both limit switch boxes and double sensors can be installed and we have been able to win over all well-known sensor manufacturers as customers.

Certifications

DIN ISO 9001

This standard has helped us to grow in a healthy way through structured processes and at the same time has laid the foundation for further certifications.

ISO IEC 80079-34

As a certified manufacturer for ATEX and IECEx products, we have been able to capture new markets for ourselves. Today, we generate a whopping 40% of our turnover with products for the explosion-protected area. All other certificates that we require for other countries are based on this certification.

Processes/Machinery

One-piece flow

The changeover from island production to the one-piece flow system was certainly a major milestone in production. We also paid attention to ergonomics and built all assembly tables to be electrically height-adjustable. This form of line production has reduced the throughput times of our large orders to a minimum and set the first important milestone towards partial automation.

Robot technology

In 2022, we also acquired a robot, which we are currently learning a lot with and which can already perform simple work steps independently.

3D printing

3D printing is a fascinating manufacturing technique that has made us super flexible in our reorganisation of production. In the beginning, we only used it to produce aids and brackets for our assembly tables, but today we already have a total of three of these printers and also produce parts for our products in small batches.
